OFC Now Offers In-Office Trigger Finger Release
MANKATO, MN - October 16, 2026 – Orthopaedic & Fracture Clinic (OFC) now offers in-office trigger finger release procedures with Dr. Andrew McNamara, giving eligible patients a convenient option for treating trigger finger without needing a hospital or outpatient surgery center.
What Is Trigger Finger?
Trigger finger is a condition that causes a finger or thumb to catch, click, or lock when bending or straightening. It occurs when the tendon that bends the finger has difficulty gliding smoothly through its surrounding sheath.
Symptoms may include stiffness, tenderness, clicking, or a finger that becomes stuck in a bent position. When nonsurgical treatments do not provide adequate relief, a minor surgical procedure called trigger finger release may be recommended.
During the procedure, the physician releases the constricted portion of the tendon sheath, allowing the tendon to move more freely.
A Convenient Option for Eligible Patients
Dr. McNamara performs trigger finger release in the OFC office under local anesthesia. For appropriate patients, this approach offers several potential benefits:
Local anesthesia: The procedure typically does not require general anesthesia or sedation.
Fewer preoperative appointments: Eligible patients may not need a separate preoperative history and physical examination, depending on their medical history and the clinician's assessment.
A time-efficient visit: The procedure and associated office visit are expected to take approximately one hour, although individual visit times may vary.
Potential cost savings: Having the procedure performed in the office may reduce facility-related costs compared with a hospital or surgery center.
Convenient recovery: Patients can typically return home shortly after the procedure and receive postoperative instructions tailored to their needs.
“Offering trigger finger release in the office gives us another way to make treatment more convenient for our patients,” said Dr. McNamara. “For appropriate patients, performing the procedure under local anesthesia can simplify the process by eliminating the need for a separate surgical facility. Our goal is to provide effective treatment while maintaining our focus on patient safety and quality care.”
Is In-Office Trigger Finger Release Right for You?
Not every patient is a candidate for an in-office procedure. Dr. McNamara will consider your symptoms, medical history, and individual needs to determine the most appropriate treatment setting.
If you are experiencing persistent finger or thumb catching, clicking, or locking, an appointment with an OFC Physician can help you understand your treatment options and determine whether in-office trigger finger release may be right for you.
