Helping Patients Move Beyond Knee Pain
Written by Dr. Kyle Swanson
Knee pain is one of the most common reasons patients seek orthopedic care. Whether caused by arthritis, injury, or years of wear and tear, chronic knee pain can significantly impact a person's ability to work, stay active, and enjoy everyday life. As an orthopedic knee arthroplasty fellow, my focus is on helping patients regain mobility, reduce pain, and improve their quality of life through evidence-based surgical and non-surgical treatment.
For many people, knee pain doesn't just affect one part of the body. It changes daily life. Simple things like climbing stairs, getting up from a chair, walking the dog, or keeping up with family can become frustrating and painful. Helping patients get back to those moments is one of the most rewarding parts of my job.
Specialized Training, Personalized Care

A fellowship in knee arthroplasty provides advanced, specialized training beyond orthopedic residency. This experience focuses on diagnosing and treating complex knee conditions, with a strong emphasis on primary and revision total knee replacement, partial knee replacement, and the latest advancements in joint reconstruction. Fellowship training also offers extensive experience in managing challenging cases, including failed joint replacements, bone loss, deformity correction, and complications that require highly specialized surgical expertise.
My approach to patient care begins with listening. Every patient has unique goals, whether returning to work, playing with grandchildren, participating in sports, or simply walking without pain. Developing an individualized treatment plan is essential, and surgery is recommended only when conservative treatments no longer provide adequate relief.
At Orthopaedic & Fracture Clinic, patients also benefit from a team-based approach. From imaging and diagnosis to physical therapy, surgery, and rehabilitation, we work together to make sure every patient has the support they need throughout their recovery.
For patients who need joint replacement, our OrthoEdge Joint Replacement Program helps ensure a coordinated experience from the initial consultation through recovery. By bringing together experienced surgeons, specialized care teams, and personalized rehabilitation, we're focused on helping patients recover confidently and return to the activities they enjoy.
Advancements in Knee Replacement
Knee replacement surgery has advanced tremendously over the past decade. Robotic-assisted technology, improved implant designs, refined surgical techniques, and better pain management have all contributed to more precise procedures and smoother recoveries for many patients. By incorporating current research and evidence-based practices into clinical decision-making, I strive to provide safe, effective, and durable solutions tailored to each patient's needs.
Patient education is another cornerstone of my practice. Understanding the diagnosis, treatment options, expected recovery, and long-term outcomes allows patients to make informed decisions with confidence. I believe that successful outcomes are built on strong communication, shared decision-making, and a collaborative relationship between surgeon and patient.

Helping You Return to What Matters Most
As an orthopedic knee arthroplasty fellow, I remain committed to lifelong learning and continuous improvement. Medicine is constantly evolving, and staying current with emerging technologies, surgical innovations, and clinical research ensures that patients receive care based on the highest standards of modern orthopedic practice.
Ultimately, my goal is simple: to restore function, relieve pain, and help patients return to the activities that matter most to them. Every successful knee replacement represents more than a technical achievement. It represents a patient regaining independence, confidence, and a better quality of life.
If knee pain is keeping you from doing the things you enjoy, know that you have options. My goal is to help you understand those options, find the treatment that's right for you, and get you back to living with less pain and greater confidence.
